Kingdom Under Fire 2 is a MMORPGRTS mix-n-mash trying to be a great combination of games, but fails miserably in every aspect of it.
By rumors the developer invented lots of money into the project to make the game a huge success, but reality is harsh and game fails miserably at many aspects, trying to be a fullpriced mmorpgrts game, but feels like a mobile f2p.
Warning! info for the non Eu/US player out there, there is only 2 servers available, which are 1 in EU and 1 in US , so beware before u buy
TL:DR below:
- The MMO aspects are really-REALLY bad (imho, i've played mmo games for 15 years so i'm understanding what is what)
- The first 6 hours of the game is all tutorial
- The upgrade / reward system is complete trash. It's basically pay2win, except you can't actually buy the stuff. So its literally a massive grind of hoping stuff drops, then hoping you win the roll, then if you get it spending 2 hours a day for 7 days to afford 1 troop rank up. Note that is not an exaggeration i did the math for upgrading from 2 star to 3. If you need to grind for the upgrade from 1 to 2 star add another 3 days.
- lots of bugs / crashes / glitches in the middle of quest (reload into the game to fix em)
- lots of server instability issues.
- 90% of the missions can be soloed with your hero and no troop management is required.
- There's no balance at all, 90% of troops are useless, just pick Axe Throwers, Scorpions, Mortyrs, Archers and you're all set.
- Major push for you to login "EVERY day" for the attendance rewards + daily missions. The missions are literally the exact same every day. To farm everything every day would probably be at minimum 2.5 hours not counting if you do the raids daily would put you up to about 4 hours.
- Hero can't jump over the smallest/invisible things, because game told you so.
- Mobs standing in front of you can't see you and won't do anything until you start killing em (from the side the game is gonna look like a complete joke). - in the fields, in RTS mode mobs do stuff better.
- You can't change the layout of buttons.
- Graphics look really outdated like 10-15 years. (that's not an issue for me, but can be for some)
- I do not recommend the game in its current state. They need to overhaul the upgrade system and reward system before i can recommend it.
- Within an hour of starting, my friends have quit because was too bored or sick of getting stuck in a middle of tutorial quest, and zero co-op missions (except kill 3 wolfs, bring few pelts and etc)
More details below
MMO stuff
- The Quest system is useless, because they feel like a chore to do, are literally: talk to me, talk to guy 5 feet from me, talk to me, talk to another guy 5 feet from me, repeat this 5 times, pickup this box next to me and give it to me, now talk to me outside of town, now down the road, now at the next outpost, etc.
- You will end up just spamming F as fast as you can because this automatically does all the correct things for commentary. You don't actually need to read anything. I don't know anyone that has read anything in the game or has any idea what the story actually is.
- It's missing tons of basic features. The chat system is hard to use and most outright ignore it other than world chat.
- The general enemies in the open world are basically pointless. early on they provide 1 xp per kill and are absolutely no threat sometimes not even fighting back and are just annoying because they knock you off your horse
- Being on mount is useless cause all you have to do is walk 5 feet to talk to a guy, and then the quest triggers.
- All mounts have the exact same speed, so having multiple ones is pointless.
- Classes are imbalanced with some of them being completely useless.
- Crafting system UI is a complete joke. You have a "craft" button and a "craft all" button. God knows why you'd want to randomly craft everything and thus waste all your materials. After you craft something you have to click "Move To Inventory". if you don't you can't craft anything at this craft merchant or any of the others but it doesn't actually tell you why or which merchant you have to go pickup the item from.
RTS:
- Other than raids your Hero can solo everything and you don't even need troops.. hell just hero's could solo 2 of the 4 raids right now.
- The RTS is a lot of fun but honestly there isn't much actual strategy with only 1 or 2 requiring actual strats
- most missions long as your troops are upgraded you just throw them at the enemy and go to hero mode and slaughter them while your troops keep them busy.
- Major battles you'll be getting very low FPS.
- Enemies just spawn in on mass out of no where. If you had pushed through the enemy they'll just spawn right on top of you.
- The only time these are difficult is when they throw in 30 enemy archer/ rifleman regiments all of a sudden and your troops die almost instantly (one of the raids)
- Troops are largely imbalanced with many not used at all
Loot: Obviously the game is about getting better loot for your hero and better troops.
- You can get blue troops from subjugation missions. The best way to do this is literally to get a D (worst) ranking. For some reason this guarantees the troop book will be in one of the 4 cards you can blindly select from for loot. This means you'll have a 25% chance of getting a unit. Far better odds than getting the troops from the raid, but this means you literally have to just run around on the map for 3 minutes and kill nothing or you'll do better than D. you have to literally do the worst possible job to get the best odds.
Upgrading. I think its important for people to understand how you upgrade your troops as this is super important but done SUPER badly. All of this is achieved through lots of grinding to use materials to purchase it or via just pure luck.
- To rank up a troop you need 2-3 things
1. the region stone. This is specific to the region the troop is from. i count 10 regions from the npc that sells them. Buying these is expensive using troop coins or you get lucky off random drops
2. the vision stone. This is specific to the unit type. I currently count at least 13 of these + duplicate ones for the legendary versions. You get the basic ones for troop coins while legendary ones take a ♥♥♥♥ ton of farming. About 10 days worth of maxing out your daily crack missions to get 1 unit up to rank 3.
3. better troops require meritorious stones. For blue troops you get 10 pieces to make 1 full stone which you need at least 10 for the rank up. Same for legendary troops 10 pieces to make 1 full piece.
- Equipment upgrades! That's right some of your troops get equipment upgrades
This is via various stones again different kinds for different troops and far as I know its all gotten via random drops or random chests that you get for doing daily quests.
4. You also can teach your troops new skills. This costs cubics which is a whole different currency that you acquire from grinding quests. Some of the advanced skills can ONLY be purchased from the cubic shop but they seem to rotate stock so no guarantee they'll have the skill you want.
PVP
- its dead. there is none
- The pvp zone they send you to at end game for quests is pointless. People just stand outside of the town trading kills and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the game. You can only get credit for 1 kill every 5 minutes and for some dumb reason the daily quest requires 3.
Bugs / Random bad things.
- occasional crashes
- massive server instability. lots of people have had issues logging in regularly
- if you log out in the world map most people can't log back in without logging into another character first.
- Mobs sometimes can become immortal beings
- Model issues
- major battles the game will run at 15 FPS on a 1060
- Have run into a lot of issues where a skill / zone / etc says its there but isn't actually in the game yet.
